The Wakes are a folk rock band from Glasgow, Scotland.〔 The band's sound is a mixture of Celtic traditional music fused with punk rock & funk. The band's lyrics embrace their culture, heritage and surroundings. They cover all manner of subjects from anti-fascist politics, immigration〔 and unemployment to uprising and rebellion in Scotland, Ireland and beyond. The Wakes continue to perform throughout the UK, Ireland and mainland Europe.〔 In 2008 the group wrote "The Pirates of the League" about the cult German football club FC St Pauli. In 2010 R2 Rock & Reel magazine awarded their 'No Irish Need Apply' album 4/5 stars,〔 and their 2013 follow up 'The Red and The Green' was awarded the same rating by the publication.
